What Are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks form when skin stretches or shrinks faster than it can adapt — during pregnancy, growth spurts, weight changes, or rapid muscle gain. The deeper support layer of the skin develops small tears, which show first as red or purple streaks and gradually fade to silvery-white lines. They’re completely normal and harmless. And while no treatment can erase them, the right series of treatments can visibly reduce their appearance — smoother texture, softer contrast, skin you feel better in.

Why Stretch Marks Fade but Don't Disappear

A stretch mark is a change in the skin’s collagen and elastin structure — not a surface stain — which is why creams alone rarely make a visible difference. Treatments that stimulate the skin’s own renewal can: microneedling encourages new collagen where the mark sits, and radio frequency helps improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity around it. Newer red or purple marks tend to respond fastest, but older marks can still show meaningful improvement over a series.

When Stretch Marks Commonly Appear

Pregnancy

The most common cause — most often across the belly, hips, breasts, and thighs.

Growth Spurts

Rapid growth during the teenage years can leave marks on the back, hips, and legs.

Weight Changes

Gaining or losing weight quickly stretches the skin faster than it can adapt.

Muscle Gain

Fast muscle growth — common with strength training — can mark the shoulders, arms, and thighs.

Genetics & Hormones

Family history and hormonal changes make some skin naturally more prone to stretch marks.

Honest Expectations, Real Improvement

Anyone promising to remove your stretch marks completely is overselling — no treatment can do that. What we can do, honestly and gradually, is reduce their appearance: microneedling stimulates your skin’s own collagen over a series of sessions, and our Repêchâge® LED radio frequency and EMS treatment helps improve the look of firmness and elasticity. Every plan is built and performed by a licensed esthetician, and at your free consultation we’ll tell you plainly what your marks are likely — and unlikely — to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — and we’d rather tell you that upfront than after you’ve paid for a package. A stretch mark is a permanent change in the skin’s structure. What a proper series of treatments can genuinely do is reduce how visible they are: smoother texture, softer edges, and less contrast against the surrounding skin. Most clients find that a meaningful, worthwhile change — it’s just not the same as erasing them, and we won’t pretend otherwise.
Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, which triggers its natural repair response — new collagen and elastin form exactly where the stretch mark sits. Over a series of sessions, this helps smooth the texture of the mark and soften how much it stands out. It’s the best-studied esthetic approach for stretch marks, and it works gradually: each session builds on the last rather than delivering one dramatic change.
Most stretch mark plans run three to six microneedling sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart so your skin has time to build new collagen between visits. Newer, still-reddish marks usually respond in fewer sessions; older silvery-white marks need more patience. RF skin tightening can be layered in to help improve the look of firmness in the area. We’ll map out a realistic plan — and honest expectations — at your free consultation.
They can, but more slowly — honesty matters here. Mature, silvery-white marks have finished their natural fading, so improvement comes mainly from texture: microneedling helps the mark sit smoother and catch less light, which makes it read as less visible. The colour contrast changes less than with newer marks. If your marks are older, we’ll be straightforward at your consultation about how much change a series can realistically deliver.
We postpone microneedling and radio frequency treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding — it’s standard practice and simply not worth any uncertainty. The good news: this is also when many marks are newest, and treating them within the first year or two after they appear tends to give the best response. You’re welcome to come in for a consultation now, plan your series, and start once your physician gives the all-clear.
Microneedling is done with a numbing cream, so most clients feel light scratching rather than pain; expect the area to look pink or lightly flushed for one to two days, with possible light flaking after. RF skin tightening is painless — most people describe it as a warm massage — with no downtime at all. We’ll walk you through simple aftercare, and neither treatment should keep you from your normal routine.
